Most students at Kennebunk High School are familiar with Mrs. Lamontagne, whether from of one of her clubs or simply having her for health class. One way or another, we can all pretty much agree that she is incredibly dedicated to her occupation here at KHS. In fact, she’s so involved that I could hardly find time to meet with her!

Aside from being the health teacher, Mrs. Lamontagne is also the head of two clubs at KHS: Girl Talk and Interact Club. Girl Talk is a mentorship program involving both high school and middle school girls. Senior Girl Talk leader Olivia Ferrick states that “she [Mrs. Lamontagne] makes it possible for the club to happen”. Mrs. Lamontagne is also the advisor for Interact Club, which focuses on volunteerism both within our community and internationally. This volunteerism is brought into effect when students commit to service projects on a weekly, biweekly or monthly basis with local businesses throughout the community looking for assistance. Two places that students have found themselves getting involved in are groups such as Atria and the soup kitchen in Biddeford.

Mrs. Lamontagne’s involvement isn’t only limited to the school scene. On September 17th and 18th, Mrs. Lamontagne brought 66 of her health students to clean the American Legion Hall in Kennebunk. While there, Lamontagne and her students cleaned windows, walls, parking lots, screens, dishes, cabinets and more. This not only gave students the chance to extend a helping hand to their community, but also to ask veterans questions about their lives. Lamontagne stated that her goal was to “teach her students about volunteerism and caring about other people,” which was brought into effect when the veterans spoke to the kids about their social standing once they returned from war.

As if she weren’t already involved enough, Lamontagne is also the only class advisor for the Sophomore class of 2018! Lamontagne states that being the only class advisor “hasn’t been too difficult yet, since we aren’t really in the thick of fundraising or anything”. In addition, when asked the benefits of it are, Lamontagne stated that she “really enjoys getting to know students on a more long term basis”. This is a different from how she normally is able to get to know students, which is typically in a semester-long health class.
