Christmas is fast approaching and ‘tis the season for ugly sweater parties. Nothing says “Deck the Halls” more than a funky, oversized sweater complete with embroidered St. Nicks and flashing Christmas lights! Before getting decked out in your ugliest Christmas attire, check out these fun tips on how to be a festive fashionista this Holiday Season.

Pair with tall boots and leg warmers: Nothing dresses up an outfit better than a nice pair of boots! Wear your oversized Christmas sweater over a pair of black leggings, with long socks or legwarmers to keep your feet nice and cozy! Fuzzy UGGs, Bearpaws, or other slipper-like boots are another comfy way to stay warm and cute when rocking your sweater.

Wear over a flannel: There is nothing cozier than a flannel on a cold December day! Wear a green or red colored flannel beneath your ugly Christmas sweater. Let the bottom of the flannel hang below the hem of the sweater, and roll the sleeves to show off both the sweater’s design and the plaid beneath it.

Accessorize: You have probably seen at least one of your teachers wearing some sort of holiday themed jewelry. Believe it or not, these peculiar adornments are perfect to pair with an ugly sweater! Have fun mixing and matching your accessories. Find a pair of earrings with your favorite holiday movie character on them, or a necklace made of flashing Christmas tree lights. A great place to find fun and festive accessories like these is Claire’s at the Maine Mall, or even your local Walmart.

Follow any of these fashionable tips and you’re sure to look your best at your Christmas party this Holiday season. According to Hannah Thomson, an avid ugly sweater collector, “the best place to get an ugly sweater is definitely the Christmas Tree Shop.” So dash on out to your favorite holiday shopping spot and buy the ugliest sweater you can find so you can take part in this funky and festive tradition! Happy Holidays!
