Teacher of the Week: Ms. Strickland

Our Teacher of the Week is well-known math teacher, Ms. Strickland! Before teaching at KHS, she taught for two years in Newmarket, New Hampshire. Then, she came to KHS in 1986 and has been working here ever since. She teaches various subjects like Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Advanced Math, and she enjoys almost anything that involves math.

Ms. Strickland went to college at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston. She grew up about 20 minutes away from there in Wakefield, Rhode Island. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in applied mathematics, and after interviewing for positions without finding what she was looking for, Ms. Strickland returned to URI and took 3 semesters of the teacher certification program.

When asked what she loves most about teaching, Ms. Strickland replied, “reviewing the material with students, and having it finally click.” When she isn’t at KHS giving students extra help, Ms. Strickland lives in ‘Sunny Saco, Maine’ with her cat named Dixie. Ms. Strickland likes to spend time with her family, but only when it is possible because most of her family lives in southern New England, so she has to drive to visit them. She says that houseplants are her hobby, and she also likes to read fiction books about Maine. When she has the time, she also likes to take good walks to get exercise.

As a student in high school, Ms. Strickland defined herself as a bookworm. She explained that she couldn’t relax until all of her homework was done. Her senior year, the class voted that she was the student who would “always be found studying.” She worked hard in school to get good grades to get a discount on car insurance and be able to use the car. Knowing her as a very organized, thorough teacher it is not hard to believe that she is a hard worker! So let’s all fuel our algebraic fire and thank Ms. Strickland for always working hard to teach us everything we need to know about math.
