Dear Bunky,

With the pressure of college approaching, my classmates and I are beginning to feel more and more stressed about it, do you have any advice for us?

Thanks, your stressed seniors

Dear stressed seniors, the whirlwind of college is right around the corner. You’re likely reading this because you’re feeling lost in the middle of your applications, just getting a start on things, or maybe haven’t started at all. Whatever your situation is, here are some important things to remember:

  • You’re not alone.

Although it may not feel like it, everyone else in your class is in the same boat as you. Remember that everyone is going through the same process and is just as anxious or confused as you might be. Keep in mind that in the end, it’s all going to be worth it!

  • Prioritize, don’t procrastinate.

At this busy time in the school year, it’s important to keep a healthy balance between homework, college applications, sports, and any other commitments you may have. In order to enjoy and make the most out of your senior year, it is key to take responsibility and prioritize the things that are most important. Yes, college applications are a time consuming part of planning your future; however, it is still possible to have fun during this exciting time. After all, this is a year you’re sure to reflect on later in your life. It will be here sooner than you think, so it’s important to not procrastinate your applications.

  • See your guidance counselor.

If you have questions about anything regarding your college applications, make an appointment with your guidance counselor. Getting your questions answered will likely give you some ease. Whether you have been close with your guidance counselor throughout the years or not, they are there and more than willing to help you during this process.

  • Relax.

Although it’s a difficult and stressful time, try to take a deep breath and not worry too much. Whether you decide to apply early or not, you’ll feel a great sense of relief once your applications are done. On an even more exciting note, keep in mind that once you’ve heard back and made a decision (it feels far away, but it’s not!), you’ll realize that all of the hard work was worth it.
