On November 11th, the Kennebunk Football team beat Biddeford and won the Campbell conference finals. Kennebunk beat Biddeford for the second time this season, leading by three touchdowns. The final score was 42-21. The team was very excited to play, and even more excited to see the fan section storm the field after their big win.

Coach Joe Rafferty says, ¨I did expect to win, I always expect to win. We were well prepared and ready to play.  We have several talented players and felt we can play with anyone in our division.¨ Kennebunk had an undefeated record this season, so to say that they were prepared for this game is an understatement. The boys on the team entered the stadium with mindsets that helped them to play hard for the whole game, and helped them to play their position to the best of their ability.

¨We have been the Western Maine Champions in 1991, 1999 and 2013. In 1991 we won the State Championship (Gold Ball),¨ said Rafferty. This is not the first time Kennebunk football has been the Western Maine Champion, however, the most recent win was 3 years ago. Rafferty states, ¨It’s exciting for our players, parents fans and community as well as our coaches. After all, it is what we all work so hard for.¨

¨The biggest thing is to mentally prepare, rest and take care of ourselves physically.  We can’t dwell on the game too much as that “nervous” energy doesn’t help and is very draining.¨ Rafferty explains how it feels to prepare for a big game and how the days leading up to the game go.

¨For us it is confidence in what you are doing and a belief you can get it done.¨ Rafferty has been coaching for 40 years, and there is no doubt that he is one of the best in the state, and Kennebunk will have many more titles to win in the future. They should not dwell on the loss of the state game as they put up a good fight and they should most certainly be there next year. As for the seniors, they had an amazing season and they should take that with them and focus on the good things that came out of the season. They should be very proud of their accomplishments as a team.
