We’ve finally had our first snowfall and there is snow all around, but now that Winter break has almost arrived, you might want to start brainstorming to spice up your vacation and to give yourself things to look forward to.

A common thing that most people of all ages love to do just for fun or to stay active is going ice skating. The Waterhouse Pavilion just in downtown Kennebunk is a fantastic place to go just like the Family Ice Center in Falmouth. Sophomore Charlotte Finer said, “One of my favorite things to do over vacation is go to ice skating,” sophomore Grace Howard also mentioned that skating is an all time favorite. One of the most popular activities to do in the winter is skiing. Fortunately, if you enjoy skiing, Maine is the right place to be. A few of the many ski mountains in Maine are SugarLoaf, Sunday River, Shawnee Peak, Black Mountain, and Saddleback.

Snowshoeing is a fun and active way to both stay and shape and enjoy your time. Laudholm in Kennebunk, nearly on the Wells line, is a great place to go. Harris Farm in Dayton Maine is also a fan favorite for snowshoeing. Snow tubing is just as fun, a couple great places to try are Seacoast Adventure in Windham, Black Mountain ski resort, and the Aglow Gardens, located in beautiful Boothbay Harbour. During the off season, it is an attraction to go look at all of the gardens, but during the month of December they have the Festival of Lights. Grace and Charlotte both said “I am looking forward to spending time with my family on Christmas.”

If that isn’t enough, a nice thing to try could be yoga. Quest Fitness offers multiple different types of yoga classes, or you could try Village Yoga or Port Yoga. All of these places are within Kennebunk. When was the last time you went bowling? Bowling is a fun, easy, and inexpensive way to spend a few hours. Vacationland Bowling in Saco and Big 20 Bowling Center right in Scarborough are two great places. Many families and friends share traditions around the Holidays. Howard said her family tradition is “We eat spaghetti on Christmas and go to the movies. Yes, we always go to the movies!” Unlike Grace, Finer’s family does not have a special tradition but they do “switch it up every year. One thing that we always do before Christmas is have a cookie decorating party every year.” 2017 is around the corner, so get festive and throw a holiday party, or celebrate the New year.
