Teacher of the Week: Mr. Viola

Our Teacher of the Week is science teacher, Mr. Viola! Mr. Viola grew up in South Portland, ME and has been in Maine for his entire life. Before teaching at KHS, Mr. Viola went to college at the University of New England and graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry and Education. He also was a substitute in South Portland and taught in Marshwood, but said that he loves being around the kids here at KHS. Mr. Viola teaches Chemistry and Physics and says that those are the subjects that he has the most passion for.

Mr. Viola is not only well known throughout our school, but is also well known in the Kennebunk Community because of the time that he puts into coaching sports. For the past four years, Mr. Viola has been the head coach for Boys First Team Soccer at South Portland High School and also helps as the Varsity assistant. He is well known for his head coach position of Track and Field and is the new Girls First Team Basketball Coach here at KHS. In his spare time, Mr. Viola said, ¨When I’m not coaching, I play in a coed soccer team, love to run, and am always trying to recruit people for track.¨

When Mr. Viola was asked what he enjoys most about teaching, he said, ¨I have always liked helping my students, and interacting with all of them.¨ He is also one of the Class Advisors for the Junior Class of 2016, along with Mrs. Boggs. Mr. Viola said that in high school he would describe himself as, ¨fairly smart, fairly athletic, and super awkward.” If you are ever trying to find Mr. Viola he is most likely hanging out with the Junior class, playing soccer, or recruiting students for Track.
