Knot Bracelet– DIY

5913fabb98dba1daa4c1348d516535f0As spring approaches, the trend of sailor knot bracelets become more and more prevalent. Most of those bracelets usually cost anywhere from $20 to $45! Personally, I wouldn’t want to break bank on just a bracelet. Now, you can make the same bracelet for what it costs to buy some string and a clasp! So, let’s get started.

What you will need is two pieces of string. It is better if the string is thicker, so the finished design shows through more. You can also use two different colored strings so you can see the design more clearly (scroll down to see what it looks like). You will also need a clasp to glue on to the ends of the string and a pair of pliers (or another object to flatten the clasp together). If you don’t want to use a clasp, you can just tie the two ends of string together, but it may not look as nice as the clasp.

First, get your two pieces of string and turn both into a narrow U-shape. Tape the ends of the string so when you add the clasp, it is easier to glue on (if you are just tying the ends together you don’t have to worry about doing this step).

Next, take end A of the first string, it doesn’t matter which one you use first, and cross it over the middle of itself. Make sure that string is pointing downward, almost like it is pointing toward your left hand and that it is sitting on top of the string itself. This is the last thing you will do with string one, the rest of tying will be done with the second string.

Take string 1 and put it on top of string 2, so that the loop made by string 1 lies over string 2. Take end C and loop it over end A, and under end B. Then take end C and put it under the string that is visible through the loop made by string 1.

Next, take all the ends of the string and tighten them together. You should now have your Josephine knot finished.

If you decide to tie the ends together then just regular knows will do. If you want to use clasps then take some glue (super glue preferred) and fit the pieces of string into the clasp. Tighten the clasp with the pliers. Repeat this step for both sides. Your bracelet is now complete!
