Why Donald Trump is not a president for women

Following the recent debates, there has been mass speculation that presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks from a place of sexism. It’s no secret that Trump doesn’t have the best filter-he says what he wants, when he wants, and demonstrates an aura of entitlement, possibly derived from the fact that he is a billionaire white man in America. However, while this speculation has been present from the day Trump announced his candidacy, his sexist words have recently been blown up all over the media. If you’re a citizen in America with access to the internet, cable, or even a newspaper, you can’t have missed it. Since the earliest days of his fame, Trump has degraded and belittled women across the globe, including his own wives and daughters. In fact, in 2007, Trump stated in an interview with ABC News, “if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.” Naturally, this statement hit a sore spot with many people. It isn’t just Trump’s daughters who receive sexist comments from the candidate-no, Trump speaks his mind on any and every woman, and often does not have anything nice to say.

When Trump gained ownership of the Miss Universe pageant, he believed that this meant he also gained the right to walk in on pageant contestants in their changing rooms, many of whom were only teenagers when they were competing in the contest. Former Miss Teen USA contestant Mariah Billado recently stated, “I remember putting on [my] dress really quick because [I] was like, ‘Oh my God, there’s a man in here.’” In addition to walking in on underage girls in the midst of changing their clothes, after contestant Alicia Machado won the title of Miss Universe, Trump was quoted calling her “miss Piggy” and “miss Housekeeping.” When Machado, a human woman who is flawed just like the rest of us, allegedly gained weight following her win, Trump said “…so this is somebody who likes to eat.” It goes without saying that when someone is absolutely slandered by a person of power, their ego could be shot. Accordingly, Alicia Machado stated, “…I would still see myself as fat, because a powerful man had said so.”

If one read into Trump’s proposed policies, they would notice that he does not support Roe vs. Wade, which allows women to have safe abortions. Trump is pro-life, meaning he believes that the life of an unborn fetus is more important than the lives of the women who are not prepared to have a child. While Trump is certainly entitled to have his own opinion about any subject he wishes, I have a difficult time believing that a seventy year-old billionaire man should have the right to decide what decisions American women are allowed to make about their own bodies.

During the third presidential debate, while answering a question that likely didn’t have anything to do with women, Trump announced, “nobody has more respect for women than I do, nobody.” However, what with all of the current allegations against Trump regarding his numerous unwanted advances made towards women, I absolutely doubt that this statement is true. Donald Trump, in an incredible number of ways, is not a president for women.
Election day is November 8th.
