Ask Bunky
Dear Bunky,
I’m looking forward to break, but after Thanksgiving Day I always end up looking for things to do for the rest of the days. Do you have any fun ideas?
Thanks, Bored Turkey
Dear Bored Turkey,
Although Thanksgiving break isn’t very long, everyone wants to make the most of it and find fun things to do. I’m here to help, here is a list of fun activity ideas to try over break:
- Black Friday Shopping
Grab some of your friends or family the day after Thanksgiving to get a head start on your Christmas shopping. Some stores even open on the night on Thanksgiving. Read Allie Ferrick’s article for tips and to see where the best sales are this year.
2. Have a movie day
There is no better time to spend a cold day inside watching your favorite movies than over vacation. Make some popcorn and hot chocolate to warm up and make your movie day even better.
3. Go on a hike
There are plenty of great hiking trails near Kennebunk to try in the beautiful fall weather. Some ideas are; the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, Rachel Carson in Wells, Wolfe’s Neck State Park in Freeport and Mount Agamenticus in York. There are lots more and can be found online. Happy hiking!
4. Try a new restaurant
Go out to eat (not on Thanksgiving, of course) at a restaurant you have never tried. There are plenty, not just in Kennebunk, and it can be a fun way to spend time with your friends and do something new.
5. Bake
Baking for/with your friends and family makes everybody happy and can be fun for anyone. You can even try some new recipes.
6. Go to a museum
In Portland, some great museums to check out are the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, the Victoria Mansion, Portland Science Center, Museum of African Art and Culture, and the Portland Art Museum (Hint: if you’re under 17 here, you get in free!)
I hope this helps and that everyone has a great Thanksgiving break!
Sincerely, Bunky
