Teacher of the Month
Mr. Hatfield
Mr. Hatfield’s daily schedule consists of three things: school, football and his family. He teaches five classes, coaches football and still manages to see him family. As a new teacher at KHS it’s notable that he’s already built a connection and is well liked by much of our student body. Although perceived as serious by students, he also has a more dynamic side.
Students and colleagues describe Mr. Hatfield in seemingly contradicting terms: “If I had to describe him, I would say he’s laid back, or at least appears so. He sits back and watches what’s going on and figures it out before he jumps in.” The English Department Chair, Mrs. Carlson states, “He’s the kind of person who likes to figure things out.” But how does Mr. Hatfield see himself? “Hopefully my students would say I’m serious and that I know what I’m talking about” he jokes. “I can come off as kind of really serious even when I don’t intend to be. I’m certainly a laid back person I think.”
During the fall, outside of the classroom there is a likely chance Mr. Hatfield could be found on the football field. After playing at Kenyon college and coaching at Bowdoin, he moved to help coach our team. When asked about his connections to our players his eyes immediately lit up. He expressed his pride for how far the boys were able to get and how much he enjoyed them all as people. “They’re certainly a rowdy bunch,” he states with a smile, “They’re great kids.”
When Mr. Hatfield isn’t being consumed by his demanding schedule, he spends his free time with his family. He goes on to elaborate that he’s soon to be an uncle: “I have a brother in Falmouth who’s expecting his first child, that’s really exciting for all of us.” Mr. Hatfield put it best when he states, “My job, family and football are my big passions.”
