The Connecting Beam
The beam that was signed by many students was put in a place to connect the old school to the new school.
There was a recent beam signing in front of the high school to showcase the beam that will connect the new school to the old school. The beam was placed in the hallway that will connects the foreign language wing with the math wing, although it will not be visible when the construction is complete. The beam had an American flag and tree on top when it was lowered down by the crane. The tree is a symbol of new soil and the highest point or last touch on a building is where the tree will go. ¨It’s a ceremony they always do when connecting a building or reaching the highest point. It’s a sign of progress,¨ says Mrs. Cressey.
Mrs. Cressey says that they need to have another celebration to commemorate the process and the problems they have overcome as a staff along with the students making adjustments. “Because this is our project, we have had to be flexible this fall with the renovation project, and I think it’s like anything you go through together. You want to celebrate the good times, and everyone’s been very positive, very willing to sacrifice something. It’s important that we celebrate every milestone.¨
When asked if there will be any more events like this, Mrs. Cressey answered, ¨…There will definitely be a big celebration when we come back to school in the fall because we will take over much of the science labs all the way through the history wing, so that is a big percentage of the school done, so I think we should celebrate.¨
