A Look to the Future from Glimpses of the Past
Construction deadlines to look forward to at KHS!
Some think that change is good, while some might disagree. Though most students at KHS will agree that the changes at the school will be good. Everyone knows that the school is under construction, but not everyone might know why; the buildings are old, and the classrooms are out of date. It is expected that all of the renovations and construction on the main buildings will be completed by the end of November, 2017.
By the end of this year students and faculty will be eating in our new cafeteria and fully functional kitchen! By May 15, 2017, there will be new furniture including tables similar to the café tables we have now, as well a round tables with seats attached. From what Mrs. Cressey has to say, there will be lots of natural light coming in through all of the new windows. A new recycling center will have a place for bottles and a place for compost along with a normal trash can.
Construction will be in full swing throughout the fall of 2017. In October the gym, weight room, and locker rooms will be completed. The bottom half of the underpass will be completed, creating six new classrooms as well as the Library which will be completed too. In November, the top part of the bridge will be completed, giving room for four math teachers and Mr. Viola. At some point by the end of Fall, all of the science classrooms as well as some of the social studies and the foreign language classrooms will be completed.
Skip to a year later, November 2018, we will be all done with the portables! By the end of next school year building C will be torn down to make way for more parking. When all is said and done, there will be a grand total of 476 parking spaces. “When you go into the [new] building, all you’ll say is, ‘WOW! It was worth it,’” said Mrs. Cressey when I asked her how she felt about all of the construction going on now.
Even though the school will only be fully completed, all nice and shiny, it will be for the current seventh graders. The current Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen will all get to see glimpses of the past, present and future.
