Humans of KHS: Promposal Edition
Promposals: the hot new thing around the country.
As spring rolls around, the snow begins to melt and the time until Prom begins to dwindle which can only mean one thing: promposals. A relatively new fad, oxford dictionary defines a promposal as an elaborately staged request to be someone’s date to the prom. Unsurprisingly, this new craze has reached Kennebunk High School in full.
Kylie Rossborough, senior, had one of the very first promposals at the boys hockey banquet in the beginning of March. Rossborough was a manager throughout the season and was always front and center to watch hockey player Justin Wiggins.
Wiggins chose the perfect place to prompose that would throw Kylie off her guard: at the boys hockey banquet.
Kylie described the event as “at the end of the hockey banquet. I saw him [Justin] run out. We started taking pictures with all of the seniors and someone asked out where Justin was. Next thing I knew, I saw him run out and he was standing there with the sign asking me to prom. I was very surprised.”
This promposal appeared to set the rest off and start a chain of elaborate ways to ask a friend or significant other to prom.
Another extravagant promposal was done by senior Eli Clark. At the spirit week assembly, he made a very large sign and promosed to junior, Ava Gaulkin, in front of the entire school. She said yes.
Although these ‘promposals’ are quite fun and exciting, they are not a necessity. It can be just as fun to just ask a friend to prom and not take it to the extreme; however, the promoposals are a fun add-in to an already enjoyable event.
