The end of the summer was accompanied with a major traffic change; Log Cabin Road in Arundel closed for culvert replacement. Thankfully, not all of Log Cabin is closed, only from Old Post to Lombard Road. This closure is from August 9th to October 6th. The detour means immediately turning onto Old Post, across the bridge on Sinnott Road, and then down Lombard, which leads back to Log Cabin. Closing this section of the road has led to a lot of speeding through the detour. The bridge on Sinnott Road that connects Old Post and Lombard has a blind turn that can be very dangerous when people aren’t paying attention and especially now, with increased speeding.
At the intersection between Old Post and Log Cabin, you can see the giant hole where the culvert was. No one can keep going down Log Cabin past Old Post, but if you’re coming from the Trolly Museum side then you can technically go a little further because people still live down there and there is a business further down the road. Frinklepod Farm has set up signage along the detour to advertise that they are still open. Closing Log Cabin where Lombard branches off was more of a convenience thing to limit the traffic near the gaping hole.
The Log Cabin Road closure has affected me a lot because when people speed across the bridge they don’t realize how quickly Lombard Road comes up. Then they miss their turn onto Lombard and my house is the closest one, so they turn around in my driveway. This is a normal problem, but it has gotten worse with more traffic coming through. Some people try to be smooth by not fully pulling into the driveway and turning around in the road, which is fully stupid on their part. Someone has turned around in my driveway at least once a day since the detour started. The people around this area are looking forward to Log Cabin Road being fully open again so they don’t have to deal with it anymore.
