Welcome back to teacher of the week! Each week we’ll be highlighting a teacher or staff member here at KHS. This week, our featured teacher is Mr. Young! Mr. Young has taught math here for three years now. 

What is your teacher bliss?

When a student has been working very hard and they realize that they actually understand the material in a meaningful way

What is the hardest thing about teaching?

Challenging each student at a level appropriate to encourage learning and comprehension

No names—describe your worst teaching experience.

My second year teaching High School I taught a PE class for 1 block as well as the regular math classes.  Once during soccer I ran over a 9th grade female student and gave her a bloody nose.  It was the second bloody nose I had given a student at this school.

What is your dream vacation?

Chest high waves in Scorpion Bay after the water has warmed up in June

What would your students be surprised to find out about you?

Not really sure, I bartended and skied for 10 years in Southwest Colorado before becoming a teacher but not sure if that’s surprising

What are your favorite summer break activities?

Surf, road trip (Mexico, Colorado, Nova Scotia)  with my wife and dog

What is your advice for students?

Go west (at least for a while)
