Ms. Ovington
Emilia Ilyas
Ms. Ovington has been teaching math at KHS for the past seven years and will continue her teaching career at Cape Elizabeth High School. Her favorite part of teaching at KHS is seeing the excitement in students when they solve a complex problem. She also loves coaching both the math and ultimate frisbee teams. Although she never anticipated becoming the coach of the ultimate frisbee team, it has become one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences at KHS, and she will miss it dearly.
At KHS, Ms. Ovington is arguably most well known as the calculus teacher; however, at Cape Elizabeth, she will be teaching algebra one, algebra two, and precalculus. She is excited to challenge herself with new classes and embrace the change with open arms. The switch will be a bittersweet one for her, as she will miss the students and connections formed at KHS. However, she is thankful for the memories she is leaving with and will certainly make many more in the future.
As someone who has been in Ms. Ovington’s class this year, it is sad to think of her leaving. She has been one of the best math teachers I have ever encountered, always willing to listen and offer support when needed. She organizes her classes in a way that allows students to interact with the concepts and understand the process behind each theorem. We will all miss you, Ms. Ovington. Thank you for everything you have done for us.
Ms. Treadwell
Eva MacDonald
Ms.Treadwell has been a biology teacher at Kennebunk High School for 6 years. She is also the advisor for the Women in Science and Engineering club and co-advisor of the Game Club. She’ll miss working with these clubs and students most. She loves how dedicated WiSE students are to “supporting science for everyone”, and will especially miss the shenanigans of Game Club. Moving forward Ms.Treadwell would like to pursue a science related field, whether that be working in a research lab or contributing to work involving wildlife and natural resources. She plans to explore what science careers are out there since she became a teacher straight after college. Ms.Treadwell is looking forward to going to Tanzania this summer! She’s excited to see the area in person after teaching students about African grassland biomes, food webs, and the interactions between wildlife and the environment for years. Ms.Treadwell’s favorite memory at KHS is doing a DNA extraction and analysis lab with her AP Biology students. She says “there’s something really amazing about taking some saliva and doing a whole bunch of science to learn something about yourself, and I love watching students discover how it works”. Thank you to Ms.Treadwell for all you’ve done for our school and community! Good luck on your future endeavors!
Mrs. Farrell
Isabella Donnery
Mrs. Farrell is one of our teachers in the Science Department. She teaches Biology and IB Environmental Y1 and Y2. Mrs. Farrell has been teaching for over 25 years, and says that “moving on from [her] job feels bittersweet… but it’s time for [her] to embrace something different.” She has taught at KHS for 16 years, and is a big part of the community here. You may not have her as a teacher, but you probably have seen her walking her dog, or going for a run in Kennebunkport or the beach. After her retirement, she plans to split her time between Kennebunk and Nova Scotia, travel as much as possible, and spend a lot of time with her granddaughter. Kennebunk will miss you Mrs. Farrell!
Mr. Leach
Thomas Morin
After spending two years at KHS, a school district Mr. Leach has been a part of for six years, he is gearing up for a new adventure at a boarding school in Western Connecticut to start his PhD. Teaching writing is something he is really passionate about, and he is very excited about it. Looking back, he remembers the days when he used to watch over recess at SRS. His love for teaching boils down to the kids; they are the reason he does what he does. It might sound cheesy, but it’s true. As he dives into this next phase of life, Mr. Leach is not just looking to teach – he is also hoping to figure out more about who he is and just enjoy living.
Mr. Bush
Thomas Morin
Mr. Bush plans to focus more on his construction job while still keeping his coaching responsibilities at KHS, taking things year by year. He loves spending time in Rangeley and is excited to start this new chapter. To give some perspective, Mr. Bush has been in the game for 36 years, with 11 of those years spent in RSU and 4 at KHS. He has won six state championships along the way, a fact he is quite proud of. It’s important to note that his departure isn’t for any reason other than wanting to pursue his own interests. Mr. Bush holds the students at KHS in high regard and has enjoyed getting to know each and every one of them in class.
Ms. Dumont
Aubree Veilleux
Ms. Dumont has been a positive influence in the school community for the past 29 years. Being the Administrative Assistant to the Principal, she said she’d miss the daily interactions with students and staff. Her fondest memory was seeing her four children and oldest grandchild graduate from KHS. After taking the summer off to spend time with her husband and lots of family, she plans to find something part-time to keep some structure. She even hinted at subbing in the office! When asked about how she is feeling about leaving, she said, “I’ve had a good 29 years. It’s time for the next journey in my life with some relaxation.” Thank you for all you’ve done for the school and the community. Good luck in your relaxation!
Mr. Allison
Aubree Veilleux
Mr. Allison has been a guidance counselor at Kennebunk High School for two years now. He is leaving the school to move to Williamsburg, Virginia to pursue a PhD in Counselor Education at The College of William and Mary. When asked for his favorite memory, he couldn’t name one, but said most of his fondest memories are “related to the relationships I have built with students. I always loved it when students would just pop in to chat or share their successes!” KHS was the first school that Mr. Allison had the chance to be a school counselor at and he will miss the students, other counselors, and the social workers the most. Leaving KHS and the school environment is definitely a bittersweet experience for Mr. Allison, but he is ultimately excited to further his education and pursue a doctoral degree at W&M. Thank you for all the support you’ve offered the student body and good luck in your educational endeavors!
Mr. Roddy
Quinn Wherley
After this school year, we are sad to be losing one of our kindest art teachers, Mr. Roddy. He will be pursuing a Masters degree of Fine Art, in Limerick Ireland for a full year. He is most excited for the experience and difference in culture but admits he is nervous because he’s never lived internationally. He says he will be returning to Kennebunk next year, but looks forward to investing time in himself as a student and artist. He encourages all students to pursue international studies if given the opportunity! Regardless of wherever he ends up, we are all so lucky to have known Mr. Roddy and we thank him for positively impacting our school community for the past five years.
