Ms. Felker
by Emilia Ilyas
Amie Felker has joined the KHS community as a new guidance counselor, and she will be taking initials P-Z for sophomores and L-Z for juniors and seniors. Before joining us, she has worked as a counselor in several high schools in Maine and New Hampshire, including Somersworth, Rochester, and Sanford. She grew up in Strafford, New Hampshire, on a gorgeous countryside property where she frequently gathered with her family for summer bonfires and camping adventures. She still harbors an appreciation for the natural world, and in her free time, she loves mountain biking, fishing, and skiing. When she isn’t outside, she loves spending time with her family.
Ms. Felker was drawn to KHS because of its reputation for rigorous academics and competitive athletic programs. She was also very impressed by the school’s resources and the dedication to utilize those resources to effectively help students. Kennebunk itself holds a special place in her heart, as she used to spend a lot of summers here with her family and has fond memories of the moments she spent on the beaches and with her husband. Now, she is most excited to meet and connect with all the students and become part of a community that values collaboration and support. She wants students to know that she is here for them, and her goal is to ensure that they feel supported and view her as someone they can rely on and feel comfortable around. She is excited to become part of our learning journeys.
Ms. West
by Quinn Wherley
Valerie West has joined the KHS faculty as our new Assistant Principal! After deciding to become an educator, and as a graduate from Kennebunk High School herself, Ms. West always knew she wanted to, one day, come back to her roots. She previously worked at Dover High School and moved back to Kennebunk in 2013. Outside of school life, she enjoys cooking, baking, and notes that she is a fan of The Great British Baking Show. She also loves gardening and practicing yoga. One piece of advice she urges students is to enjoy the journey! She notes “The path you take after graduation is not a straight line, but looks more like navigating a road map of Boston.” She hopes that students will introduce themselves to her and she’s excited to learn more about the hardworking staff and students of KHS.
On behalf of all of us here at Kennebunk High School: Welcome, Ms. West! We’re excited to have you!
Seven Siegel
by Bridget Gates
Seven started teaching Computer Science and Engineering courses this semester, after Mr. Kane left. Seven felt that being a STEM teacher was perfect for them and was convinced to apply after viewing a Herd article about the vacant role. Seven currently resides in Gorham, where they are a member of the Town Council. In their spare time, Seven enjoys playing a wide variety of games, and breakdancing. Before teaching at KHS, Seven created video games, ran a non-profit game development organization, worked at Epic Games, and recently worked at the Harvard Business Review helping people improve their leadership. Some fun facts about Seven are that they created a Pokemon board game during a college internship and held the Olympic Torch in 2009.
Welcome Seven, we’re glad to have you at KHS!
Ms. Abrahamsen
by Estelle Wackman
In Mr.Germana’s absence, KHS needed a long term sub for our STEM program. Ms. Abrahamsen stepped in to help out. A recent MIT graduate with a masters in chemical biological engineering, Ms.Abrahamsen brings knowledge in the field as well as many stories from the wonders of some of the smartest minds in the country. A lively, kind, and intelligent woman, we have no doubt she will fill the space beautifully in the time she is here.
During her time at MIT, Ms.Abrahmasen met many friends and mentors. She always looked up to her teachers growing up, and that didn’t stop when she reached university. She looked up to her TAs and returned the service by TA-ing a class last semester. Her roommate, Katana, was a large influence on her time there as well.
Ms.Abrahamsen hasn’t been a teacher yet, but she is the oldest of four as well as the only daughter, so there is “never a dull moment at home.” She is a family girl through-and-through, and enjoys hiking with her parents and brothers. Just last year, they hiked Kilaminjaro, which she reflected took a good amount of mental as well as physical stamina. She looks forward to hiking Kahtahdin and other mountains in Maine. Hiking isn’t the only mountain-bound hobby she has, as she also loves to snowboard in the winter and her family regularly visits Saddleback.
In her time here, Ms. Abrahamasen is excited to see how highschool has changed in the years she’s been gone, as well as see how highschoolers these days are setting up their futures. She is also happy to be able to reconnect with her youngest brother, a sophomore, who she missed greatly during her time away at college. To say the least, she is bound for great things in the world, and we are grateful she is spending her time off with us.
