Ask Bunky: Spirit Week Edition

Dear Bunky,

Spirit week is coming up and I’ve heard a lot of talk about how competitive classes get. Should I go hard next week or keep it low key? I’m so confused.

Sincerely, spirit weak

Dear spirit weak,

KHS doesn’t take competition lightly, as I’m sure you know if you’ve ever been to a sporting event when the barn is packed and the fans get rowdy. KHS divides among its 4 classes during one week in March, and things can get pretty hairy. It is true that there have been incidents of stolen class shirts, cheating during tug of war, and the infamous egging incident. But come on, we’re all just a bunch of crazy kids, right? Although it’s easy to get really excited with class spirit and run around screaming, don’t let competition bring out your ugly side. You only have 4 years here, so make them count in a way that won’t get you into trouble. Dress up each day to get points for your class, participate in the after school games, and try airband. Don’t be that “I don’t care about spirit week” kid. There is something for everyone during spirit week, whether you love to pop lock and drop it for airband or have been getting really swol in preparation for tug of war. All of this being said, don’t forget that this competition only lasts one week, so try not to create any bad blood between other classes.  So remember to participate, be respectful (or at least try), let the seniors have their fun during their last spirit week, and enjoy the loving embrace of gym A full of rowdy kids screaming their heads off during Fridays assembly.
