Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Lamontagne

Teacher Spotlight

This weeks teacher spotlight is on Mrs. Jill Lamontagne or Mrs. L, as most of her students call her for short. Mrs. L is in her second year as the Health teacher here at KHS although she had been working in the Ed Tech Department two years before.
Before entering KHS as a teacher, Mrs. L entered KHS as a student. When asked what kind of student she was she responded with a laugh, “I was a nerd, I guess…but I always played three sports too”. She was a part of the cross country team, basketball team, and softball team, but her favorite was basketball. She explains, “it was mostly because of my teammates. It was a great group of girls and we had a lot of fun together!”
Although Mrs. L is working as our beloved Health teacher, it was not always the route she wanted to take. She actually went to college at the University of Maine at Orono to study to become a nurse while she worked in the ER for three years in order to pay for nursing school. But when her senior year of college came around she decided she wanted to become a teacher instead (which we are all so glad she did) and graduated from the University of Southern Maine and eventually got her masters from the University of New England.
Mrs. L’s life has changed drastically within the year with the arrival of her first child who, after months of keeping it a secret from everyone, her and her husband named Sawyer, now seven months old. When asked about life with Sawyer she sighs and says with a smile, “He is crawling, trying to walk…but he’s not much of a cuddler”.
Mrs. L also has high hopes for the future regarding her health class, “I am hoping that I will soon be able to offer a class like ‘Advanced Health’ or ‘Health II’ for students who are really interested in the healthcare field… I would love to provide this type of experience for students here at KHS”! She then explains how she was able to take these kinds of classes as a student at KHS which prepared her as well as put her at a huge advantage over her other classmates in college in becoming a nurse as she already knew much of the material.
We are all so glad to have Mrs. L working as our health teacher here at KHS and can not wait to learn more from her in the future! Thanks Mrs. L!
