Kroissant Kravings

Raise your hand if you have heard of Cronuts®, the food craze sweeping the nation. Now you have made a fool of yourself for raising your hand.  Nevertheless, a Cronut® is a unique combination of a croissant and a donut created by the New York baker, Dominique Ansel. Well, unfortunately the confectionary is trademarked by the entrepreneur, so no one else can ever make them (he will find you).

So I am here to offer a substitution for this sugary treat. I call them Kroissants® and I have also trademarked these but I will let you (only you) make them. Kroissants® are a delicious marriage of croissants and kale, just wonderful. In a regular, old croissant recipe, butter and flour, along with a few other ingredients, are combined to make a flaky, golden breakfast pastry. My creation replaces flour and butter with kale, raw kale. Now that I mention it, the other ingredients (yeast, milk, love) are also replaced with kale.

To be truthful, Kroissants® are simply a lot of raw kale piled on a plate, in a somewhat croissant-like shape . I really wanted to make this creation special though, so I decided a simple glaze would perfectly balance the flavor combination I had so far. To make the glaze, whisk confectionary sugar, a small amount of lemon juice, and a dash of vanilla extract in a small bowl. Next, throw this mixture away and blend up some fresh kale. There you have it. A delicious substitution for the boring, so-last-year Cronuts®.
