Life is a Cabaret

Senior Cabaret is a tradition that has been upheld at Kennebunk High School for many years. It is a night of entertainment for the community, held at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport. Traditionally, Cabaret has been held to raise money for the senior class, and as tickets generally sell at around $50, it is a fantastic way for the senior class to earn money for their senior trip, as well as for the public to enjoy the talents of Kennebunk High School students. According to senior Maddy Chapman, “Cabaret is mostly a fancy talent show.” Luckily, Kennebunk is full of talented students!

The chance to perform in Senior Cabaret is open to all students in the school, though it is mainly an opportunity for the senior class to demonstrate their talents. However, Cabaret isn’t solely focused on showcasing talent. It’s also a way for students to get to know each other outside of school, and for students to explore what they’re passionate about. Chapman says, “hanging out with the other performers is really fun and I don’t regret doing [Cabaret].” This year, Cabaret was dotted with extremely talented performers, such as senior Hannah Sheehan, who performed Adele’s “Don’t You Remember.”

Often, Cabaret is well attended, and therefore brings in quite a bit of money for the senior class. “It depends on how invested the senior class is in making it attended,” says Chapman, “for example, last year’s senior class was super invested in making Cabaret the best it could be, and I’m pretty sure they ended up filling every seat in there. This year was a little more difficult in terms of people to buy tickets, but we did it, which is the most important thing.” Cabaret is a fantastic night full of entertainment and fabulous food not only for parents, but for the community, and is a great way for anyone to showcase their talents!
