The Herd and the English department are sad to announce that our English teacher and Herd advisor, Ms. Gardner, will be leaving in early December. Her decision to leave has been very difficult due to her love of teaching, but she has been drawn to a more ‘behind-the-scenes’ perspective of education as the instructional strategist at MSK. Ms. Gardner has been teaching sophomore English for five years, and has also been a significant contributor to the Herd during her time at KHS. She is adamant about “taking opportunities that come your way,” and says that her transition to a new position is “an act of lifelong learning.”
One of Ms. Gardner’s favorite aspects of her time at KHS has been growing this very paper! She is honored to have been a mentor for the Herd staff and the club has benefited greatly from her leadership. Ms. Gardner has also loved many of the units she has covered in class, especially studying the Great Gatsby, despite her initial apprehension to the novel.
Ms. Gardner will be missed very much, and she has made a significant impact in many areas of KHS. She has been a positive and fun presence in our community, and will continue to be one at MSK. She said she hopes that English classes “continue to focus on the importance of class discussions and assignments that push our thinking in a way that is inherently anti-AI…learning is not an efficient process.” Wise words.
Thank you to Ms. Gardner for all that you have done for us, we wish you good luck on your future endeavors!
