Red Carpet Looks on the Yellow Brick Road

Besides Prom, Homecoming is the biggest fashion event of the school year. All the grades gather together decked out in their most stylish semi-formal wear, and Hoco 2016 was no exception. While everyone in attendance looked spectacular, there were a few looks that deserve some extra recognition. For this reason, the Rampage fashion column would like to acknowledge the top three best dressed students at the Homecoming dance.

By far the coziest and craziest outfit was rocked by stylish senior, Mimi Mackilligan, who is coming in at third best dressed for this year’s dance. While many would not have been brave enough to sport this comfy and courageous look, Mackilligan felt that wearing pajamas took some of the hassle out of Homecoming. “Homecoming is excessively stressful,” and she hoped that her quirky outfit choice would help students to “laugh at it and loosen up.” Mackilligan purchased her fabulous carrot onesie, inspired by YouTuber Hannah Hart, on Amazon.com. When asked what advice she would give to any future student searching for the perfect outfit for Homecoming, Mackilligan replied, “honestly, do what makes you feel comfortable and don’t stress so much about how you look, but rather how you feel,” and to do whatever make you, “feel awesome.” Well, Mimi Mackilligan sure should be feeling awesome about her cozy, fun, and fabulously different outfit for 2016’s Homecoming dance.

Coming in at 2nd for KHS best dressed is Evie Roop, who looked perfect in her patterned a-line dress. Roop found her dazzling dress on Top Shop’s online store. She fell in love with it because she had “wanted to do something different with a pattern,” she adored the gold accents that gave it an “autumny” feel, and “basically liked everything about it.” Roop feels that the most important thing when finding the perfect dress for Homecoming is to “go for quality. I’m very drawn to high quality,” she stated, and urged readers to “look at what the fabric is so you know exactly what you’re getting.” Roop also emphasized the importance of “sticking with your instincts.” “Don’t let anyone really influence you,” she said, “you don’t want to look back at your dress and think, oh that really wasn’t me.” The one person whose influence Roop welcomes is that of her mother, who always knows what styles and materials will be best. It will be exciting to see what fabulous fashion statement Evie Roop will make at next year’s Homecoming dance as a senior!

Finally, the award for overall best dressed goes to Kurt Stentiford and his Emerald City themed outfit. Stentiford’s gleaming green jacket was not only extremely stylish, but fit perfectly with this year’s Homecoming theme: the yellow brick road. He found this vintage piece at an estate sale, and loved it because of the “metallic green design on it.” When asked what he looks for in the ideal outfit, Stentiford explained, “to any and all students looking for the perfect homecoming look, my advice would be just be yourself.” He encourages students to, “find something that suits you and your personality,” and to never “worry about what other people are wearing or what anyone else thinks. Your look should be something you’re proud to wear.” To wrap up his interview, Stentiford stresses the importance of being comfortable in whatever you wear. “Functionality and comfort,” the dapper junior emphasized, “are the two things you need to succeed.”
