We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
★★★★☆
We Were Liars is a book that follows the summer of Cadence and her corrupt family on their private island in Massachusetts. This book explores the tight-knit friend group called “the liars.” The group includes Cadence, her two cousins, and one of her cousin’s friends. This book earns a four star rating because of the amount of suspense it contains, and the plot twist makes it worth the read. There are many characters in this book, and they begin to feel like real people as the story unfolds. However, the ending was shocking, it felt somewhat rushed and confusing, but now that I have read the prequel, Family of Liars, it makes much more sense. Another thing that I enjoyed was that it was in first person because Cadence’s point of view is very interesting and crucial to the story. Overall, this book makes you feel like one of the liars and is a worthwhile read.
