In today’s world, disrespect is enough justification for murder.
Renee Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent, ending her life at just 37 years old. The excuses the government made came fast and loose. “At a very minimum, that woman was very, very disrespectful to law enforcement,” President Trump told reporters. He also claimed she ran over the agent that shot her.
In many of the statements made by Mr.President, he does not call Renee Good by her name. He repeatedly refers to her as “that woman”. In every sense, the federal government has justified the killing of Ms.Good by snapping back at her disrespect, but local officials counter the narratives that the White House attempts, some of which being labeled as “self-defense”
The story is blurry, but the message here is clear. The people in charge are trying to make it obvious that anyone who even so much as ‘disrespects’ the people ruining their homes, families, and safety are playing with their lives. It is unclear just where our President draws the line at justifying the murder of civilians, but we know it isn’t here.
“If cops could just kill people any time they get annoyed or frustrated, my God, we would be in trouble.” Mike Fox with Cato Institute’s Project on Criminal Justice states. He combats the ideas that Renee was a “professional agitator”, arguing that even then she should not have been murdered.
Before Jonathon Ross killed Ms.Good, she told him she wasn’t mad at him, and then proceeded to leave in her car. Jonathan Ross then called her a “f***in b***h” and proceeded to shoot at her three times as she drove away.
While Renee Good is a name you should have heard of by now, she is not the only one. A Wall Street Journal investigation called out that it is one of 13 known cases since July in which ICE has used deadly force on common civilians.
In the week since the murder, it has been labeled as a homicide by local police but the federal officials continues to override the state’s justice system by not allowing them to obtain any evidence on the case, such as the shell cases, the gun she was shot with, or the car she was shot in.
For a force claiming to work for the ‘liberty and justice for all,’ they seem to spend an awful lot of time prohibiting the justice of those they kill. Renee Good’s life is over, but her impact certainly isn’t.
